Thanksgiving is the time of year when people start to travel home for the holidays. Families gather around a table full of traditional foods such as turkey, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole. Some families are more conventional and some are the slightly dysfunctional type. Whichever type of family dinner you have, you usually need a break juggling all of your family dinners. This is why over the past few years, ‘Friendsgiving’ has been growing in popularity. Whether it is before or after Thanksgiving day, you can look forward to enjoying traditions that you and your friends create together!
Things you can expect from a ‘Friendsgiving’ Dinner
The host will cook the turkey. This is not always a turkey in the traditional sense. Some people go for the more extreme cooking adventures like Turduckins which is cooking a chicken inside of a duck, inside of a turkey!
This is more like a Potluck. The host is probably running frantically around the house trying to prepare for the attendee’s arrival. Between that and cooking the turkey (or turducken), they simply can’t manage cooking every dish. Somehow, you usually end up with more cranberry sauce then you know what to do with!
2 types of ‘Friendsgiving’. One dinner style is one big party. This is the dinner where friends are together indulging in all of the wine and liquor everyone brought and getting a little wild is not uncommon. The other type of dinner is your Pinterest loving friends who create a beautiful table set up with fun Thanksgiving oriented games and activities.
Football. Men often gather in the tv room to watch the classic Thanksgiving Day football games. This is usually either an excuse to escape all of the women and drink, or it is the loudest room in the house as everyone is yelling at the TV and trash talking about the other team. (or both)
Better than your family dinner. You would never say it to anyone in your family, but this dinner becomes more anticipated then dinner with your relatives. ‘Friendsgiving’ is a chance to let loose, have fun, tell your friends how much they mean to you and last but not least, FEAST!!!
